Arabic speaking Delegate - International Committee of the Red Cross
May 26th 2013, 08:18

The ICRC delegate has several functions: visiting prisoners of war and political detainees, restoring family ties, organizing relief operations and promoting the principles of the Red Cross and of international humanitarian law. As a representative of the ICRC, he/she also maintains contact and negotiates with government authorities - civilian and military - in order to carry out his/her work as effectively as possible.

When applicants apply to work for the ICRC, to any type of position, they apply to a position and not a country. The ICRC sends its staff where they're needed - staff may not pick a country of choice. The job location specified for this position (Lebanon) is just one example of the countries that Arabic speaking Delegates work in. Our delegates may be sent to any country where the Arabic language is spoken. So Lebanon is not necessarily the job location - this might be any other country in the region.
As for the Job Role mentioned below, "Support services", this does not fully describe the type of role delegates have. Their role, as detailed in this job description, is very diversified because it's made up of different types of tasks.
