The ICRC defines Economic Security as the status of an individual, household or community that is able to cover its life and livelihoods obligatory expenditures in a sustainable manner, consistent with its environment, culture and customs. As such, economic security includes food security and encompasses a livelihood approach. The Economic Security Delegate is responsible for planning and implementing Economic Security programmes in compliance with ICRC guidelines and standards.
Responsibilities
- Develop a comprehensive overview and understanding of the livelihoods, economy, culture, customs, social structure and politics of a context
- Instigate and participate in assessments of the population economic security situation, when appropriate jointly with other ICRC departments such as Protection, Health, and Water and Habitat
- Contribute to the identification of beneficiaries, selection of appropriate interventions, and formulation of projects proposal
- Implement, monitor and evaluate activities according to objectives and plans of actions.
- Promote the principles of the Red Cross and of international humanitarian law.
- As a representative of the ICRC, maintain contact and negotiate with government authorities - civilian and military - in order to carry out the work as effectively as possible.
When applicants apply to work for the ICRC, to any type of position, they apply to a position and not a country. The ICRC sends its staff where they're needed - staff may not pick a country of choice. The job location specified for this position (Lebanon) is just one example of the countries that Economic Security Delegates might work in. So Lebanon is not necessarily the job location - this might be any other country in the world where ICRC works.
As for the Job Role mentioned below, "Support services", this does not fully describe the type of role Economic Security Delegates have. Their role was well detailed in this job description above.
